TACORI predicts the Top 8 Engagement Ring Trends for 2020

January 15, 2020 Team Tacori

top engagement ring trends

With more engagements happening between November and February than any other time of year, January is the perfect time to reflect on what our Designers see that’s trending, and what’s timeless.

From unique metal choices, to unexpected diamond shapes that brides are loving (hint: it’s NOT a round brilliant!), Tacori has you covered with the 8 Biggest Engagement Ring Trends for 2020 as we turn to a new year and a new decade!

And there’s not a basic, boring bauble in the bunch.

Trend 1: Interesting Diamond Shapes

For our first engagement ring trend, it’s clear to us that brides are looking for unexpected and interesting diamond shapes!  When we checked our Top 3 most-searched diamond shapes on Tacori.com, we were surprised not to see two of our favorite diamond shapes, neither the oval nor the round brilliant, make the list for Top 3 most-searched diamond shapes.

As a surprise winner, coming in as the #1 most searched diamond cut, was the emerald-cut! Dramatic and distinctive, this vintage-inspired diamond cut dates back to the 1500s and emphasizes clarity with its rectangular step-cut facets.  Last year in 2019, J.Lo received an incredible emerald-cut engagement ring, which is certain to keep the stunning beauty of an emerald-cut engagement ring firmly in the eye of the public.

Following up in the #2 and #3 most searched spots behind the emerald-cut diamond were the Princess-cut shape (a diamond trend we didn’t see coming), followed by the pear shaped diamond, which was the glamorous shape chosen by Kaley Cuoco for her recent nuptials in 2019.  Proof that brides aren’t necessarily looking for classic in 2020 – they’re looking forward to unexpected and interesting diamond shapes in the year ahead!

Trend 2: Go for the ROSE Gold 🌹

At Tacori, we prefer Platinum for our white metal, but trending big for someone who wants to go a shade different than their friends is rose gold.  Rose gold engagement rings have become an it-girl way to celebrate with color. After all, blush-worthy brides who choose this romantic hue will all be in good company with celebrity brides such as Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Alison Brie, Julianne Hough, Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port, all of whom wear rose gold engagement rings. And at Tacori, we’re seeing more requests for rose gold engagement rings than ever before.

Here are a few of our favorite Tacori engagement rings in rose gold.

Trend 3: Rubies over Sapphires!

2019 brought us so many special requests to add sapphires to engagement rings, we expected the year of Tacori Blue to continue strong (thanks, Pantone!). But our website data shows what people were really looking for: “Ruby”!

With 300%+ more searches for “Ruby” in 2019, rubies deliver a totally unique luxe look, with a vibrant red hue that transcends time and styles. And as the stone of love, energy, passion and power, it’s no surprise that the regal ruby should be so coveted. It’s also a trending celeb fave, as Katy Perry got engaged to Orlando Bloom last year with what appears to be an oval-shaped Ruby center stone.

In honor of this incredible colored gem that we expect to continue trending upward, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite ruby rings that would be a great birthstone or anniversary gift

Trend 4: Bigger is Better (Do it for the Gram!)

Trend 5: Simple Solitaire Engagement Rings (with a Tacori Twist)

While bigger might be better for some, there’s still beauty in simplicity.  More and more, we’re seeing brides gravitate towards rings that are strong and simple solitaires, with a truly Tacori twist.  Whether it’s the all new Founder’s Ring with a curved comfort fit feel and iconic new starburst signature, or the hidden diamond inscribed “T” on the Truly T solitaire, the accessible luxury of our Coastal Crescent collection, or the more extravagant RoyalT solitaires engagement rings that emphasize the beauty of the center stone – there’s a connection across collections that emphasizes simply beautiful details done effortlessly.

Trend 6 (continued): The Rise of Rainbow Rings

Continuing the trend away from traditional engagement rings, Rainbow Rings don’t rely on simply diamonds to shine. Our brides and Tacori lovers want to celebrate in color! Available in Rubies, Sapphires, Pink Sapphires, Emeralds, Diamonds and Black Diamonds, these colorful Rainbow Ring options make great stacking rings so that customers can create and express their own signature style.

Trend 7: My Rings, My Way. Make it Personal!

No one wants a boring bauble that looks like everyone else’s. They want a personal piece made just for them.  At Tacori, special orders are our specialty, offering unmatched customization and personalization possibilities for your engagement ring. With our Handcrafted in California process personally overseen by the Tacori Family, you can truly get your rings, your way.

In our guide to creating your personalized engagement ring from Tacori, you can design your dream ring by choosing the Tacori foundation and crescent fabric you love, combined with the metal color, the crown, and choose the center stone shape or stone of your choosing!

Celebrities are equally on-board with this trend, and continue to choose personal and unexpected rings, including Emma Stone, who just got engaged with an unusual pearl ring.  All Tacori rings are created as “semi-mounts”, so you too can also choose your ideal center stone – and it doesn’t have to be a diamond!  It could be an aquamarine, a morganite, or anything at all.  Here are a few of our favorite personalized rings made from Tacori that you won’t see on our website, as these uniquely one-of-a-kind special order rings were personalized for customers IRL.
